Sage Research and Consulting - A New Kind of VC Disruptor

I have had occasion recently to work directly with Sage Research and Consulting, and thought I would take the opportunity to share some information about this new organization. Sage Research co-founders Ken Ford and J D Vaughn bring a wealth of industry experience and history to their clients. They share over 40 years of contacts, experience, and industry knowledge, as well as that of their team of consultants and specialists.

We got hold of J D for three quick questions.

TPO News: Some may say there are enough analyst groups in this industry. My understanding is that Sage Research is looking to fill a few gaps in our collective coverage and support.

J D Vaughn: That's right David, Sage Research is not just another videoconferencing/collaboration analyst group. We do a number of things that businesses and entrepreneurs in our industry need. We write and validate business, marketing and financial plans and models. Then we take those plans and help raise funds and human resources for startups and emerging or growing young companies. And part and parcel to creating business plans and helping raise the capital to fund growing companies, we also develop and help execute those marketing and sales plans using contemporary social media processes and best practices. Additionally, we know how to create channel plans that actually result in accelerated and highly leveraged sales results.

TPO News: Can you tell me a little bit more about Ken, and what he brings to the group?

J D Vaughn: Ken Ford is a twenty year plus industry veteran and is the former President and CEO of Global Conferencing Partners. He has helped create and develop cloud fax services long before the word "cloud" was ever used. He has created web and search engine optimization programs that have generated over 250,000 web hits a month for one firm. Ken heads up Sage's financial side and can quickly help build living breathing business financial models that actually help organizations guide the business and secure financial partners.

TPO News: And finally, how about sharing a bit of your background with our readers.

J D Vaughn:I was a former GM at Radvision, Director at AT&T and Vice President of Sales for Polycom. I bring the sales and marketing power to the partnership and know what makes end users and channels respond to products, manufacturers and managed services providers. I have worked closely with all the major channels over the years and understand the nuances, differences and requirements of our industry channels. I also know where the engineering, executive and sales and marketing talent resides in our industry and as a consequence Sage opened their recruiting division to help growing companies find the right talent to execute their sales and marketing plans.
