SAN RAMON, Calif., Mar 07, 2012
-- The International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium (IMTC) announces that SuperOp! 2012, the premier testing event of the telecommunications industry for multimedia standards and products, will be held at the Hyatt Regency in San Diego, Calif., from April 16-20, 2012. Registration is now open through April 13 at .

Organized and conducted by the IMTC annually, SuperOp! brings together the leading companies developing multimedia telecommunications products and services worldwide. It is a must event for equipment manufacturers and service providers, enabling unprecedented opportunities to perform rigorous interoperability testing. Duplicating the wide diversity of equipment, protocols and vendors available at SuperOp! would be extremely costly and impractical for any company to do in their own test lab.

"SuperOp! is the major international telecommunications interoperability event of the year, bringing the industry together to achieve enhanced service levels for the end user, a goal IMTC is working hard to achieve," said Anatoli Levine, IMTC President and Director of Product Management for RADVISION. "We encourage and invite IMTC member and non-member companies alike to participate in this week-long testing event."

All IMTC Activity Groups will be present and take an active role in the event. Here are the highlights of the testing activities which will take place during SuperOp! 2012: PSS Activity Group will focus on HTTP streaming tests. They will continue to test HLS and MS Smooth streaming and the group will introduce MPEG-DASH tests. For this testing, PSS-AG will focus on DASH based basic streaming which includes on-demand as well as live streaming only for ISOBMFF profiles as defined in ISO/IEC 23009. MPEG-DASH testing will also include adaptive streaming using variant streams- with alternate resolution, with alternate bitrates and testing out security/Encryption as well as advanced features like Timed Text. The following companies plan to participate in the PSS Interoperability Testing: Qualcomm, Nextreaming, Nokia, NXP, Orange, PacketVideo, Real Networks and Samsung.

IMS Activity Group will focus on testing IMS voice, video and SMS services over LTE, commonly known as VoLTE (covered by GSMA PRDs IR.92 and IR.94). Live LTE network infrastructure will be provided by Huawei. Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Qualcomm, RADVISION and Samsung are expected to participate in this SuperOp testing. Companies which are not members of IMTC but interested in VoLTE interoperability testing are invited to apply for participation in SuperOp! 2012 event.

SIP Parity Activity Group will conduct testing focused on their approved Best Practice Documents for SIP Video Profile, Role Based Video Streams in SIP and SIP Security, plus additional ad hoc testing for SIP, H.323 and Telepresence interoperability. Acme Packet, Cisco Systems, Huawei, Lifesize, LG, Magor, Polycom and RADVISION are all expected to participate in these testing activities.

In addition to all the technologies listed above, IMTC members will conduct testing for SVC, TIP, H.323 and other relevant video communication protocols and implementations.

IMTC Board and its members would like to thank this year's Platinum sponsors Cisco and Vidyo and also Huawei and Polycom, who are providing infrastructure and technical engineering support at the event.

"The SuperOp has played a key role over the years in providing a neutral, engineering-focused interoperability testing environment," said Dr. Alex Eleftheriadis, co-founder and Chief Scientist of Vidyo. "Vidyo is proud to be sponsoring the event again this year as part of our commitment to fostering interoperability. We hope to see even more videoconferencing products being tested as video communications becomes ubiquitous within enterprises and vertical markets."
