Logitech unveils 1080p webcam for improved video conferencing

January 5, 2012 by Dan Worth via -- Logitech has announced it will launch what it claims is the first webcam on the market to offer high definition 1080p video calling over Skype, which could be of particular benefit to home workers and SMEs.

The HD Pro Webcam C920 also offers 720p quality video connection over Windows Live Messenger, while the camera function can take photos of up to 15 megapixels. It also has two microphones on either side of the camera to offer improved audio quality.

Videos or photos can then be uploaded to sites such as Facebook or YouTube using H.264 compression technology, the firm added.

Todd Walker, brand manager at Logitech, explained that working with Skype had enabled the firm to ensure the device will overcome the traditional limitations of video conferencing carried out over desktop devices.

"People are increasingly relying on video calling to maintain far-flung connections. Whether chatting with friends, family, or co-workers, they want to be seen at their best through a sharp, high-quality image," he said.
