Reimagining the whiteboard workflow

The way people use whiteboards might be set to change with the release of a collaborative solution claiming to improve the way local and remote teams work. Kaptivo's Adrian Cable tells Zoe Mutter how the product captures, enhances and shares content.

Video conferencing systems are great for sharing audio and video content, but a lot of productivity occurs on traditional whiteboards which cannot be effectively shared with remote participants. This was the motivation behind creating Kaptivo, the capture system that attaches to the top of any whiteboard, saves images and then shares content in realtime via livestreaming through a web browser or video conference integration. Whether the product is being used in a classroom, huddle room or office, the Kaptivo team is hoping to help turn the whiteboard into a powerful collaboration tool.

"Kaptivo, especially with the KaptivoCast accessory which enables HDMI connectivity, bridges the gap and enables every whiteboard in your organisation to be used as part of your remote collaboration workflow," says Adrian Cable, president/cto, Kaptivo.

The solution consists of two components - a camera with integrated image processing software and a cloud infrastructure. The camera's image processing leverages Kaptivo's algorithms to analyse the board contents as it is created to digitally remove shadows, reflections and obstructions. The cloud infrastructure then makes it possible to securely share the digitally enhanced content live with anyone on any device.
