ClearOne Awarded New Patent for Multipoint Videoconferencing Technology

clearone-logo.jpgSalt Lake City--ClearOne, a global provider of audio and visual communication solutions, announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a new patent involving ClearOne's videoconferencing technology.

On August 30, 2016, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued United States Patent number 9,432,624 entitled, "Method for Improving an MCU's Performance Using Common Properties of a Video Codec Standard." This patent describes a way to significantly improve the performance of a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) and relates to using a video stream manipulator as needed to scale or resize each video stream, encode the resulting video, and augment the encoded data with position information to allow video information to be positioned at a given location on a display as part of the decompression process. This results in significant computational savings that, for example, can be used to increase the number of virtual MCUs that can be supported in cloud-based video bridging systems and/or can increase the number of concurrent multipoint calls that can be supported in premise-based MCU hardware.

This new patent is part of ClearOne's growing patent portfolio that currently includes over 100 patents and pending patent applications covering multiple new technologies in the fields of audio and video processing, audio and video streaming, and communication technologies.
