Films at sea on the first superyacht IMAX cinema
Plans are afoot to build the world's first IMAX cinema aboard a superyacht
Top-deck helipads and interiors finished entirely by Fendi were some of the lavish design features seen at September's Monaco Yacht Show, but next year the must-have superyacht feature could well be on-board IMAX cinemas.
Yacht designer Ken Freivokh and Yacht Intelligence, a company that provides custom audio-visual systems to new-build superyachts, are currently collaborating on the design of an IMAX cinema which would be placed in the hull of a 150m vessel.
The first of its kind, the theatre would not just be used to show the expected range of Hollywood blockbusters but could also broadcast underwater CCTV images from outside the yacht, with the footage being transmitted via cameras on its exterior. (Proposed windowless planes, with curved screens wrapped around the interior of the cabin, would use similar technology.) The screen would also be used for streaming live content, gaming and video conferencing.
