Apical, Polycom Delivering Next Generation Video Conferencing Solutions for Businesses Globally
Apical's Assertive Camera provides enhanced video experience for Polycom video collaboration solutions. Apical is pleased to announce that its industry-leading technologies were again selected by Polycom, a global leader in video, voice and content solutions, for its next generation video collaboration solutions. Some of Polycom's video collaboration solutions, including Polycom CX5100 and Polycom RealPresence Immersive Studio, utilize Apical's Assertive Camera technology. Systems based on Apical's Assertive Camera technology deliver a coherent visual experience with high visual fidelity across these diverse solutions.
Apical's Assertive Camera is an image signal processor: the engine inside the camera which creates the visual imagery. While all cameras use some kind of processor, Assertive Camera is unique in that its design is based on a deep understanding of the human visual system and image sensor physics. It delivers the most natural, realistic imagery under the widest range of situations.
"Video collaboration is becoming one of the most important business tools for organizations looking to increase productivity, accelerate innovation, and save precious time and travel costs. But to meet recent forecasts that it will surpass email as the top means to communicate, video needs to be both high quality and easy to use," said Jeffrey Rodman, Polycom Co-Founder, Fellow and Chief Technical Evangelist. "By utilizing the advanced imaging of Apical's Assertive Cameras, Polycom's immersive telepresence rooms, CX5100 and CX5500 360-degree panoramic cameras are able to offer a high-quality and intuitive video experience."
For videoconferencing applications like Polycom's, maximizing the quality of video imagery transmitted between the glass of the lens and the glass of the display is the key to allowing users to interact naturally as if they were in the same location. Polycom achieves this by combining Assertive Camera's image processing with its own advanced transmission technologies.
Says Michael Tusch, CEO Apical: "We are delighted to see what Polycom has achieved using our Assertive Camera technology. Making great camera products requires expertise and dedication to a host of design challenges and we are glad to have played a role in the creation of these excellent new designs."
Apical is a leader in advanced image and video processing technology for embedded applications. The company's Assertive products are derived from original research into the human visual system and are designed to maximize the performance of a wide range of image capture and display devices. Apical works primarily with OEMs and semiconductor manufacturers for whom imaging capture and display are critical components. Apical is a privately-held company based in the UK.
