InfoComm14: Verrex Top 10 "Best of Show" Awards
This year's Top 10 is a mix of the innovative and innovatively simple. As always we highlight the newly launched or newly revamped with the goal of offering information and ideas that we feel will have a positive impact on our clients' audiovisual & conferencing environments, usage and strategies. Our team of InfoComm attendees, including Sales and Engineering, picked our list based on performance, relevance and innovation --and we don't rank in particular order. Think we missed something? Let us know.
# 1 Oblong Industries Mezzanine
Why we liked it: Mezzanine brings together screens, devices, applications, data and people into a single, networked, shared workspace. It is an innovative solution combining videoconferencing, presentation and collaboration capabilities, allowing simultaneous engagement of multiple users, their devices and data; ten devices per room can share their screens. Interact via Mezzanine's spatial wands, iOS and Android clients and a web browser. Available now.
# 2 Altinex Muse
Why we liked it: Perfect for public display applications, the Muse series allows mounting of displays almost anywhere. Muse allows users to transmit video, display power and IR signals up to 300ft (90m) over a single unshielded CAT-6 cable, powerful enough to power a 150 watt LCD and some 65" LED TVs up to 300 feet away from a signal and power source. Available now.
# 3 AMX Enzo
Why we liked it: You might recall Enzo from InfoComm13, but AMX has updated the presentation solution with a robust feature set to accommodate all types of collaboration. We found lots to be impressed with: "instant gratification" (instant on, instant access to content, instant meeting start, instant sharing); accessibility of shared content from USB, cloud and the internet; built-in ability to share via Dropbox and email; no need to access the corporate network to present (one of our favorites); and when you exit your session, all docs are automatically purged for security. Available now, with soft codec integration (Skype, MS Lync) coming in Q4 2014.
# 4 Vaddio RoboSHOT Conference HD PTZ Camera
Why we liked it: Vaddio's Tri-Synchronous camera control combines pan/tilt/zoom into a single motion, delivering smooth, natural camera movement. Vaddio offers the first and currently only camera to do so. Designed for small to medium sized corporate spaces, it offers a 73 wide horizontal field-of-view. Tack on high quality images, outstanding color reproduction and optical range-set image control to set limits on camera zoom and field-of-view (so users can't mess up the shot by zooming-in too close or zooming-out too far) and our team was impressed. Available Fall 2014.
# 5 Legrand InteGreat Cable Retractors
Why we liked it: Five feet (1.52m) of cable available with a single pull, that retracts back into a table box. Ideal under-table cord management, these retractors keep your conference room table sleek and uncluttered, without diminishing ease-of-access. Attaches to InteGreat AV Table Boxes, or mounts to the underside of the conference room table. Compared to other retractors, our team rated the InteGreatCable Retractor series high for installation simplicity. The series includes CAT6, HDMI, Audio and VGA, all available now.
# 6 Christie 84" UHD Multi-Touch LED Display
Why we liked it: Available in an impressive 84" format with built-in 10-point multi-touch capability (no overlay), Christie's FHQ841-T is ideal for large format presentation and collaboration. A powerful display, it can be used with Christie's Brio for interactive, collaborative applications or optimized for whiteboard and meeting room scenarios. Our team gave it high marks for responsiveness and visual impact. Available now.
We were also impressed by the MultiTaction iWall from MultiTouch Ltd. This interactive video wall solution of 12 x 55" ultra-thin bezel displays with 24 megapixel resolution offers unlimited simultaneous touch. Plus, capability to run multiple concurrent 4K videos and the ability for users to manage their files and send all the content on MultiTaction iWall to their emails, directly from the screens.
# 7 Array Telepresence Equal-i2S
Why we liked it: Transforms a traditional video conference into an immersive experience by bringing far-end participants on both sides of the table "up close & personal". The Equal-i2S uses your own video conference endpoint and displays paired with Array's Equal-i 2S dual-camera and image improvement processor to deliver a 'telepresence-like' experience, without altering (or investing more into) the room environment. Available Fall 2014.
# 8 SMART kapp Digital Capture Board
Why we liked it: A dry erase board only in terms of ease-of-use and simplicity, you can write on the super-sleek glass surface using an ink marker and colleagues can follow remotely, in real-time, on their own digital devices. The work can be saved at any time via SMART's advanced software as a PDF or JPEG, and then shared with anyone instantly. Ideal for huddle rooms, simply mount the SMART kapp, plug it in, download the app to your smart device and you are ready to collaborate. Available now.
# 9 Shure QLX-D Digital Wireless Microphone System
Why we liked it: Shure's QLX-D digital wireless mics offer class leading efficiency of frequency allocation, maximizing the number of mics used in a single room. Features networked control with Shure's Wireless Workbench 6.10 software, integration with third-party systems including AMX and Crestron, and remote monitoring and control from iOS devices via a mobile app. Add in AES-256 encryption, easy assignment of open frequencies with automatic channel scan and IR sync, and up to ten hours of continuous use with Shure's rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and the QLX-D is an ideal solution for live events like town halls and integrated corporate spaces. Available to ship in August 2014, the QLX-D line includes handheld, body pack, headset, lavalier and combo.

Why we liked it: Innovative in its simplicity, the TechPed is a table leg stand-in that houses equipment and cables locally. The designed-to-be-discrete pedestal solves under-table clutter and eliminates the need for a closet or added furniture, ideal for rooms where space is a premium. Consisting of a durable Middle Atlantic rack, our team gave it high marks for ventilation and cable management. Available now, the pedestal comes in three sizes and over a dozen finishes.
