Fraunhofer gives audio communication technology to Vconect
Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (Fraunhofer IIS) is providing advanced audio communication technologies to EU project Vconect, which is seeking to improve video-conferencing. Fraunhofer IIS said its audio technology produces CD-like audio quality. The first real-time application of Vconect was successfully integrated in July at SAPO Campus, a social network for educational institutions developed by Portugal Telecom. In October, selected SAPO Campus users will participate in a controlled experiment to study the use of the new feature. In a subsequent trial next year, Vconect will be made available to various partner schools for a wider test over a public connection. For Vconect, Fraunhofer IIS developed a browser plug-in that integrates all necessary components for a high quality telepresence experience with Full-HD Voice quality.
