IFA Berlin

Story by Joshua Parker / Telepresence Options

Mobile videoconferencing gets a boost with a number of new tablets, phablets, and smartphones. Here is a quick look at how the Sony Vaio Tap 11, Lenovo VIBE X, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, SonyXperia Z1, Samsung Note 10.1, and LG G Pad 8.3stack up as videoconferencing machines.

Sony Vaio Tap 11

sony vaio tap11

Front Camera Resolution:0.92-megapixel

Back Camera Resolution:8-megapixel

Processor Speed:i7 at1.7GHz ori5 at 1.5GHz

Screen Size: 11"

Billed as "the world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet" and it's sibling theSony Xperia Z Ultra; the Sony Vaio Tap 11 has went back to the Sony design roots. Falling short on the sceen spec's at1920 x 1080(in comparision to the MacBook Pro's Retina Display, it makes up for it with above average performance specs. Customers are given the choice ofan Intel Core i7-4610Y processor clocked at 1.7GHz or a Core i5-4210Y clocked at 1.5GHz. Both versions come with a 128GB solid state drive and have 4GB of DDR3 memory. The 0.92- megapixel camera will likely leave videoconferencing users disapointed.

Lenovo VIBE X

lenovo vibe xFront Camera Resolution:5-megapixel, 84-degree

Back Camera Resolution:13-megapixel

Processor Speed:Quad-Core MTK 6589T1.5GHz

Screen Size: 5"

Lenovo has loaded this device down with everything from Gorilla Glass to it's 5-megapixel front and 13-megapixel rear cameras. It has kept the size and weight down, clocking in at121 grams and has a thickness of only 6.9 mm; it sacrifices in screen resolution at 720p. While this device solves a lot of the problems usersexperience, it is still not leading the pack.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Galaxy note 3

Front Camera Resolution: 2-megapixel

Back Camera Resolution:13-megapixel

Processor Speed:LTE 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Processor or 3G 1.9 GHz Octa Core Processor

Screen Size: 5.7"

Lighter, slimmer, faster and longer-lasting than it'spredecessors; the Note 3 will have you questioning if it should be in the tablet isle with it's massive 5.7" screen. With outstandingFull HD Super AMOLED 1080 x 1920 screen resolution you will be making good use of HD content but the 2-megapixel camera may have you wanting more.

Sony Xperia Z1

sony xperia z1

Front Camera Resolution:2-megapixel rear

Back Camera Resolution:20.7-megapixel rear *(this is not a typo)

Processor Speed:Quad-Core2.2GHz

Screen Size: 5"

Sony has really set themselves apart with the Xperia Z1, with the 20.7-megapixel rear camera partnered with theSuper AMOLED1080 x 1920 screen. While leading the pack it taking cat video, it lacks in other area's. At 6oz and a 2-megapixel camera it is not starting a revolution. It being waterproof and fitted Gorilla Glass will help those who are proned to accidents. This phone may be better suited to replace your Rebel T5i orNikon D5200 than your Cisco or Polycom endpoint.

Samsung Note 10.1 2014 Edition

Samsung note 10.1 2014

Front Camera Resolution: 2-megapixel

Back Camera Resolution:8-megapixel

Processor Speed:1.9GHz octa-core

Screen Size: 10.1"

Samsung takes the cake in the screen catagory. At a2,560x1,600-pixel screen resolution it is easy to see what makes this one different. It made changes accross the board from it's previous models. It has a new leather styled back, a powerful octa-core processor and 3GB of ram.

LG G Pad 8.3

LG G pad 8.3

Front Camera Resolution: 1.3-megapixel

Back Camera Resolution:5-megapixel

Processor Speed:1.7 GHzQuad-Core

Screen Size: 8.3"

This one is more of a competitor to the iPad mini than anything else. Mediocre screen resolution, processor and cameras bring the G Pad 8.3 down on the list but LG fan's will be happy with the build quality. Moving to alluminum and breaking away from the plastic that most LG owners are used to seeing it a nice change. If you are looking for a powerful mobile videoconferencing platform you may need to keep looking.

Overall I think IFA has shown us some great new products I think that if we could just get a Samsung Note 10.1with the front camera of the Lenovo VIBE X and the rear camera and durability of theXperia Z1 I think think we would have an unstoppable product.
