Latest Telepresence and Visual Collaboration News:
Rosenberg returns to Cisco to help it defend against consumer products
Jonathan Rosenberg, the latest high-profile exit from Skype, plans to help Cisco defend its turf against startups and consumer-focused businesses that have begun to eat into the video conferencing and collaboration markets.
In mid-February, Rosenberg returned to Cisco, this time as vice president and CTO of cloud collaboration. He joined Skype as chief technology strategist in 2009, a year and a half before Microsoft announced plans to buy the VoIP service provider.
In his first conversation since leaving Skype, Rosenberg said it's a great time for Cisco to be competing in the cloud collaboration market, even though it means shedding its hardware-centric image and going head to head with new entrants that are starting to serve business users, including traditional consumer plays like Google and Skype.
