Enterprise video conferencing market set for return to growth
The first half of 2012 was not a good time for the global video conferencing market. However, sales bounced back during the third quarter and remained on a growth trajectory in the final three months of year, resulting in a flat annual performance and signalling a return to health. According to Infonetics Research, sales of enterprise telepresence and video conferencing equipment will maintain a steady growth pace through to 2017, rising at a compound annual rate of 6%.
Matthias Machowinski, Infonetics' directing analyst for enterprise networks and video, said that the research firm regarded 2012 as an "aberration" and expected the market to enjoy long-term growth hereafter due to enterprise interest in video communications. Last year may have started poorly but sales grew by double digits in the third quarter and sustained their growth momentum in the fourth quarter. Between these two periods, revenues went up by 10% to reach $822 million.
