Latest CCW Research figures show Polycom holds 51.4% of Chinese market for video collaboration
BEIJING, Jul 02, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Polycom, Inc., the global leader in open standards-based unified communications, announced that the company is leading the Chinese market in video conferencing systems with 51.4% market share in 2011, according to the latest results by CCW Research, a leading Chinese IT market research and consulting company. The results are highlighted in the report "Development Trends of Chinese Market Videoconferencing Systems 2011-2012"i.
The findings by CCW Research reveal that the value of the video collaboration market in China grew by 20.6% in 2011 over the previous yearii, as immersive telepresence, HD room and desktop systems, as well as mobile video endpoints were increasingly adopted. According to CCW Research, the overall market is expected to continue a growth trend in 2012, driven by emerging video cloud services.
"Video collaboration has become mission-critical in business because of the significant savings in travel costs, improvements in productivity, and ability to make faster, more informed team decisions. In China and in global markets, Polycom is working to make video collaboration ubiquitous, with customers no longer being limited by location, network carrier, protocol, or device," said Steven Li, Vice President and General Manager, Polycom China. "Polycom is delivering innovative new video applications to new platforms, connecting people visually, securely, reliably, and in high definition, no matter where they are or what device or network they use. Through partnerships with mobile device manufacturers Apple, Samsung and HTC; PC-manufacturer Lenovo; and service providers such as China Unicom, Polycom is making visual collaboration accessible and easy-to-use for everyone."
Mr. Yang Ke, Consulting Director of CCW Research, said: "Polycom held 51.4 percent market share in the China video conferencing market in 2011, demonstrating its strength in delivering industry-leading video collaboration solutions that meet the needs of China customers. In an increasingly competitive marketplace, Polycom's advantage of standards-based solutions and focus on interoperability, combined with its strong partnerships, makes it a market leader in the video conferencing industry."
A key driver for video collaboration ubiquity is cloud-delivery, and Polycom is working with leading service providers to help them deliver Video-as-a-Service (VaaS) offerings to their customers. For example, China Unicom created one of the largest video clouds in the world, powered by the Polycom(R) RealPresence(R) Platform, which enables the delivery of VaaS to more than 10,000 business and government organisations throughout China. The RealPresence Platform provides the scalability, reliability, and interoperability that enable China Unicom's video cloud to interconnect approximately 100,000 endpoints (and growing) from 20 different vendors.
Polycom(R) RealPresence(R) video solutions, which range from room and fully immersive systems to RealPresence Mobile and executive desktop systems, are powered by the Polycom RealPresence Platform. Providing a comprehensive software infrastructure designed to bring nearly universal interoperability to enterprise video networks through broad support of open industry standards, the RealPresence Platform transforms islands of employees and fragmented communications systems into a seamless culture of collaboration, with enterprise-grade video easily and securely accessible to all authorised personnel whether they're mobile, remote, or on-site.
Polycom RealPresence video solutions are today helping to make organizations throughout China more productive, and changing the way people work and learn.
-- Earlier this month, Polycom announced a collaboration with the Education Commission of Beijing Xicheng District to create the first remote and international exchange education system in Beijing using Polycom RealPresence video solutions. The first stage of the remote education system will involve construction of video classrooms in 10 middle schools, 50 standard schools, and 200 cooperative schools to be completed by September 2012.
-- In 2011, China's Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) deployed Polycom RealPresence Platform, to speed development of its large-scale projects and conferences, in particular for the management reform, evaluation and review of MOST's 175 strategic 2011/2012 research projects and initiatives across 20 provinces.
