New Cisco Telepresence SX20 Quick Set Turns Flat Panel Displays Into Powerful 1080p60 Room Systems

The camera and remote appear to be the standard Cisco/Tandberg form factors, but the codec itself looks new, with an incredibly slim profile. According to the data sheet it is only 1.4 inches high. In fact, it is so slim that it can be wall mounted, as shown in the photo below. It is hard to complain about not having enough equipment space to accommodate videoconferencing when almost no space is required.

Twitter was buzzing this morning with Summit attendees tweeting about the SX20. Even Cisco execs were getting in on the fun with OJ Winge (SVP for Cisco's TelePresence Technology Group) tweeting a picture of fellow Cisco telepresence team members Eddie Clifton and Richard Hayes showing off the SX20 to summit attendees.
The industry continues to move away from expensive, complicated, heavy hardware taking up valueable conference room space and intimidating users. While we are wait for more information on the SX20 (such as pricing) to be announced we can notch this up as yet another indication that the industry is hearing the call for simpler, more flexible, easily deployable and managable videoconferencing.
