Interactive Telepresence Content - Interactive Motion Studios launches

July 4, 2011 | Howard Lichtman
Interactive telepresence content - Coming soon to a Dojo or video endpoint near you. What is interactive telepresence content? Live interaction with remote teachers, experts, consultants, and even instruction from world-class martial artists.  If there were two guys who you would expect to see at the intersection of interactive telepresence and real-time instruction it would have to be Carmichael Simon and Mike Lee and they have started a company, Interactive Motion Studios, to begin putting together the world's 1st 2nd catalog of interactive telepresence content.

Carmichael_Simon_Telepresence.JPGCarmichael Simon is an internationally renowned, award winning martial artist and hip hop dance choreographer. He is one of the pioneers of XiaolinGruv which integrates the fundamentals of Martial Arts Ballet, Stunting, and the Freestyle TURF Dance. In other words he is a guy with some rare skills, a global following, and the opportunity to teach and choreograph in multiple places at one time.

Mike Lee is the guy who knows how to hook that up.  Mike heads up the emerging technology practice at Austin's Straight Up technologies where he focuses on technology integration and product placement in sports.  Mike was formerly a co-founder and chief network architect for the Telepresence Exchange Business Unit at Cisco Systems where he designed Cisco inter-carrier architecture for inter-company telepresence communications.  Just the guy to be able to wire something like this up.

It gets even better... They know each other because Carmichael, when he is not choreographing martial arts, is implementing Mike's telepresence exchange architectures for some of the biggest names in telecommunications. Carmichael is also a Grand Master in IP inter-networking.

So they got some interactive telepresence content...
Remote instruction from some of the top martial artists in the world.  By the 1/2 hour. one-on-one individualized instruction or, eventually, in some cases logged into a group class.  The experience can be had from the privacy of your own home or in a dojo optimized for video instruction with a large format projected display, proper lighting, camera control, and, if desired, a local instructor to compliment the virtual Grand Master.

Each instructor sets their own rate, course offerings, and schedule.  Prospective students can peruse instructor biographies at the Interactive Motion Studios website and email an instructor to schedule a session.

At the appointed time students can connect via Cisco umi, Apple iChat, Skype, or XBox Kinect.

Carmichael and Mike  are now looking for the right investors and partners to help take  the company to the next level.  The vision is to create the world's largest catalog of interactive telepresence content with the right technology on the back-end to manage scheduling, handle payment processing, and an auction mechanism to maximize the revenue for celebrities who are willing to sell a fraction of their time  to ensure they get top dollar.

Because as interactive video becomes wide-spread someone needs to put together the Ebay for celebrity time.
