Telstra Expands Global Telepresence Reach with Tata Communications

29 June 2011: Doing business overseas has become simpler with Telstra and Tata Communications joining forces to allow high definition video conferencing equipment to connect locally and globally across both company's networks.
The trial interconnection agreement will allow Telstra's worldwide network of Cisco TelePresence customers to connect to Tata Communications' Global Meeting Exchange which provides private and public telepresence services spanning 31 cities across five continents.
Philip Jones, Executive Director of Telstra Innovation, Products and Marketing, said the agreement will help address the demand for telepresence meetings globally.
"Telepresence is an increasingly popular way to conduct global business meetings because of the time, cost and environmental efficiencies it delivers," Mr Jones said.
"The productivity benefits of video conferencing can be felt throughout the business by improved communications between customers, partners and colleagues.
"This trial agreement makes it even easier for Telstra's customers around the world to enjoy those benefits, and to support more agile and flexible business practices essential for business today," Mr Jones said.
Peter Quinlan, Vice President, Integrated Business Video Services, Tata Communications, said the interconnection agreement will benefit organisations that do business across the globe.
"The agreement with Telstra further demonstrates our commitment to drive Telepresence as a tool for true global collaboration where customers can connect with each other regardless of service provider or network," Mr Quinlan said.
"We are pleased to welcome Telstra customers to Tata Communications' global telepresence network, which they can now access for even greater collaboration opportunities across their business ecosystem," Mr Quinlan said.
Telepresence allows a virtual simulation of meeting rooms, joining participants who are at different locations in a life-like manner while making them feel as if they are sitting in the same room. Telepresence can assist with employee collaboration across remote locations, boosting productivity while at the same time reducing travel time and costs.
To organise a telepresence meeting, Telstra customers across the globe will be provided with instructions on how to reach their conference on Tata Communications' Global Meeting Exchange platform. Assistance is available to Telstra customers via their local Telstra service desk number in each region.
