Breakthrough Visual Communications Exchange to Connect Millions Of Users Worldwide Via Agreements With Hundreds Of Interconnected Service Providers Across Six Continents
MURRAY HILL, N.J., June 1, 2011 - Glowpoint Inc. (OTCBB: GLOW), a leading global provider of cloud managed video services, today announced they have teamed with Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq:PLCM) and leading service providers from around the world to launch the broadest visual communications exchange of its kind, the new Open Visual Communications Consortium™ (OVCC™) organization. The goal is for OVCC members to provide secure, standards-based business-to-business (B2B) connectivity to organizations and consumers connected to hundreds of service providers in countries around the world.
Sponsored by leading unified communications company
Polycom, OVCC includes founding members: Airtel, AT&T, BCS Global, BT Conferencing, Cable&Wireless Worldwide, Global Crossing, Glowpoint, iFormata Communications, Masergy, Orange Business Services, PCCW Global, Telefonica, Telstra, and Verizon and will be extended to include additional service providers in the future. OVCC will solve a key barrier to broader visual communications adoption by enabling interoperable global B2B connectivity for telepresence and video conferencing and high-quality connectivity across service provider networks.
Earlier this year, Glowpoint participated with other members of OVCC in the first multi-vendor, high-definition (HD) telepresence call to join 18 standards-based systems across 12 service provider networks. Glowpoint is a leading provider of cloud managed video collaboration and business-to-business exchange services for enterprise customers around the world via its Open Video™ cloud architecture.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to participate in OVCC and continue to broaden the availability of secure, reliable B2B connectivity services for the widest range of telepresence and video conferencing solutions on the market," said Stephen Vobbe, Glowpoint's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "Providing technology-neutral, network-agnostic cloud managed services is the cornerstone of our product development strategy, and it's what customers expect from their video service providers. Industry efforts like OVCC will help us deliver on this strategy and ultimately increase the business value of video, which is good for everyone."
The OVCC organization model will, over time, remove the barriers to visual communications ubiquity and accelerate the use of telepresence and video conferencing. The consortium will significantly increase the business value of new and existing visual communications systems, because they will open video communications to millions of users.
"The growth and potential business and user value of telepresence has historically been stifled by interoperability and connectivity challenges," said Andy Miller, Polycom CEO. "Today, Polycom and OVCC are rewriting the rules. This groundbreaking global consortium is transforming the connectivity model, with a world-class global exchange that, over time, removes the barriers to ubiquity thus further enabling our UC Everywhere™ vision."
OVCC will open to new members beginning in the second half of 2011. The initial OVCC capabilities are expected to launch mid-year 2012. For more information please visit www.glowpoint.com or www.polycom.com/ovcc.
