HP Expands Reach of HP Visual Collaboration Offerings in Europe

April 13, 2011 | Howard Lichtman
HP Visual Collaboration technology provides customers software-based video conferencing powered by a reliable, cost-effective, architecture.

The technology uses scalable video coding (SVC) that adapts to network limitations and allows high-definition video conferencing with minimal latency on enterprise or best-effort networks, such as home broadband or mobile 3G. Videocall is expected to offer the services by the second half of the year.

"Videocall customers have asked for video services that provide seamless, reliable connections over a variety of networks - whether the customer is working at home, the office or travelling - and HP Visual Collaboration is the emerging leader in this new kind of video conferencing," said Rob Portwood, chief executive officer, Videocall. "Videocall provides solutions in the cloud as a fully managed service, making it simple for multiple user groups to access and cost-effective for any company to deploy."

"SVC is a more versatile encoding method than any of its predecessor algorithms," said Andrew Davis, senior analyst, Wainhouse Research. "SVC's benefits include enhanced video quality, greatly decreased latency, significantly improved network error tolerance and more."

"As our first European service provider, Videocall will help businesses realize a more productive, cost-effective and personal way of working," said Rob Scott, vice president and general manager, Visual Collaboration, HP. "With HP providing the technology behind Videocall's cloud-based video conferencing offerings, clients do not require a network upgrade or other costly hardware investments."

Videocall joins Vantage, its partner in Asia Pacific, in providing HP Visual Collaboration products to customers. Videocall and Vantage provide fully managed, high-quality conferencing services over a pervasive, intelligent and end-to-end IP video network, accomplished by Video Operations Network Centres (VNOC) in London and Melbourne.

Videocall's MyPresence cloud-based service enables users to combine the advantages of on-demand, high-definition visual collaboration, from anywhere to anywhere, over best-effort networks such as home broadband or mobile 3G delivered by the HP Visual Collaboration service with the benefits of cloud applications such as flexibility, mobility, automation and low IT department input.
