Glowpoint Awarded Patent for Automated Video Call Routing Technology

MURRAY HILL, N.J., April 7, 2011 - Glowpoint Inc. (OTCBB: GLOW), a leading global provider of cloud managed services, today announced it was notified by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that is has been awarded another patent - U.S. Patent No. 7,916,717.

While virtually all video systems sold in the last few years are SIP or H.323 (IP) compliant, H.320 (ISDN) is still utilized by enterprises to connect offices located in remote parts of the world. Glowpoint's Open Video platform is designed to offer customers around the globe unparalleled flexibility and ease of video calling by providing technology and protocol compatibility to ensure that customers can collaborate from any system to any system without having to purchase additional hardware and infrastructure. The patent Glowpoint now owns is for "Systems and Method for Automated Routing of Incoming and Outgoing Video Calls between IP and ISDN networks".

The patented technology ensures simple and seamless connectivity between IP and ISDN video users around the world. The automated call routing process includes routing video calls to the most inexpensive gateway exit point off the Glowpoint network before entering the PSTN/ISDN network, thus enabling customers to leverage Glowpoint's least cost routing and gateway efficiency methodology.

"While we have seen a rapid decrease in the overall use of ISDN, it still represents roughly 30% of the video traffic we are managing. This is the third patent issued to Glowpoint by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The two others awarded include a patent for a live video operator service and one for Usage-Based Billing of IP-Based Video Calls. Glowpoint has 6 other patents pending.
