LifeSize's Video Center Launches Mobile HD Video Streaming
February 15, 2011 | Kendal Kirby
LifeSize Video Center was first launched in April of 2010 and was somewhat revolutionary in capabilities and price point. The new version of Video Center has the ability to stream up to 20 High Definition videos or 50 Standard Definition videos at the same time. Unlike competitive offerings, LifeSize Video Center has a unique approach to transcoding video, allowing each LifeSize video endpoint to do all the work on the transcode, resulting in faster, higher quality video.
LifeSize Video Center is currently used for executive updates, business presentations, sales meetings training sessions, lectures, and data. The latest version of LifeSize Video Center enhances its capabilities even further by optimizing the precursor features.
New features of LifeSize Video Center include:
- Mobile Streaming: Now users can access critical content anywhere, using a mobile device such as iPod, iPhone, or iPad. It connects via a wifi signal or a cellular network and there are no apps to install.
- Automatic Adaptive Streaming: LifeSize Video Center automatically detects the bandwidth and chooses the appropriate bitrate.
- Network Storage: Gives users the ability to store unlimited amounts of footage, without any additional fees.
- API: Enables easier automation and integration of LifeSize Video Center into third party systems and tools, such as the company intranet and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
According to Rafi Anuar,Product Manager at LifeSize "One of the reasons LifeSize Video Center is such a great product is because it is so user friendly. The end points of the device do all the work. All the user needs to do is press a single button, enter the set key, and the user live. Then when the user is done recording, all they need to do is simply press a single button again. Everything else is done for you." Anuar added that the cost, compared to the competitors is also a huge advantage. Anuar continued, "The LifeSize Video Center is about 30 thousand dollars, whereas a similar product with the same features could cost up to 10 times as much."
Additionally, the interface of the LifeSize Video Center is incredibly seamless. Professors at Universities can easily record a lecture, and when students watch it, the video looks as if it is coming straight from the University, including the school logo, colors, etc.
"The custom website that the product allows you to create has a YouTube look and feel to it, for example, it shows recent videos, channels, featured videos, etc. It's quite simple to create and administer," Anuar said.
LifeSize Video Center streams high quality video quickly, extremely close to real time. Live High Definition videos only have a 4-5 second delay, just like live broadcast TV.
The base price for the LifeSize Video Center is $29,999 U.S. MSRP.
