GetThere and Tata Communications Partner to Offer Public and Private Telepresence Rooms for Customers
June 21, 2010 | Chris Payatagool
GetThere, a travel and collaboration management solution provider, announced it is partnering with India communications provider Tata Communications to offer public and private Telepresence (News - Alert) rooms to customers who demand virtual meetings.
The new collaboration will offer GetThere customers access to Tata communications' network of public Telepresence rooms situated around the globe.
Telepresence will let participants experience life-size HD video and audio communication and give them the sense that they are in the same room. It will assist in effective collaboration in a wide variety of interactions, from standard meetings and recruiting interviews to training sessions.
GetThere said that its partnership with Tata Communications (News - Alert) will offer their corporate customers and their business travelers a broader set of relevant collaboration alternatives, enabling the selection of both travel and non-travel options depending on the reason for a trip, and allowing them to truly maximize their investments in collaboration products and services. Tata Communications' ever-growing base of public Telepresence rooms around the world makes them a great global partner as they continue to enhance their travel and collaboration solution.
As a public service, Tata rents out Telepresence services on a pay-per-use basis. As a private service, Tata currently offers Telepresence-related services including installation, maintenance, and service. The company has partnered with major hotel chains which has enabled Tata to open public Telepresence rooms on a cost and revenue share basis. With their community of partners, the organization is currently claimed to own the largest network of public rooms and is present in 15 major business centers and emerging markets, including India, Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and Africa.
Tata has claimed that these Telepresence rooms help companies to boost their productivity and conduct meetings as often as needed, while at the same time reducing their carbon footprint and travel-related costs.
Officials with Tata Communications have stated that using their services increases the accessibility of businesses beyond their major company offices to a wider ecosystem of users. Users could include customers, suppliers, remote workers and business partners. They are excited to be working with GetThere and look forward to helping them add a new dimension to their clients' managed travel programs.
In related news, Tata Communications offered mobile video telephony across the globe and Glowpoint (News - Alert), Tata Communications teamed to provide connectivity.
