Appia Announces Telepresence Video Solution

Appia Video Communication platform now supports 1080p HD.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - March 23, 2010 - Appia Communications announced today that its Appia Video Communication (AVC) platform has been enhanced to provide a telepresence experience with full 1080p resolution.

Appia is a nationwide provider of business communication and networking services, including video conferencing and collaboration. With its new telepresence capability, Appia now offer resolutions from 320x240 through 1920x1080.

"This extension of the AVC platform allows customers to use video in the boardroom, the hotel room, and everywhere in between," said Victor von Schlegell, Appia's president.

Appia's telepresence offering is also easy to use. "One of the objections many people have to video is that it is complicated and difficult to operate. We have designed AVC to be intuitive: Users can connect with just a few mouse clicks," von Schlegell said.

Most telepresence offerings are very expensive -- as much as $50,000, $100,000 or more per installation. Appia's all-inclusive conference room package, which includes a camera, 60-inch display and microphone, is just over $10,000.

Finally, while customers can install all of the infrastructure equipment necessary for AVC on their premises, they can also choose to use Appia's Video as a Service option. This reduces the capital cost and relieves customers of the burden of managing their video infrastructure.

"Our goal is to make video communication easy and affordable for nearly every organization," von Schlegell said. "This new offering takes us closer to that goal."
