Polycom Expands Telepresence Portfolio with 1080P, Delivering Best Quality of Experience at any Bandwidth

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Oct. 20, 2008 - Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in telepresence, video and voice communications solutions, today expanded the industry's broadest telepresence portfolio announcing new 1080p high definition (HD) solutions that deliver the best telepresence quality of experience at any bandwidth, giving customers the flexibility to adapt telepresence resolution based on their network bandwidth capabilities or specific application needs.

Polycom is extending 1080p and broadcast-quality 720p at 60 frames per second (fps) across its telepresence product line, including immersive and room telepresence solutions and multipoint infrastructure, providing end-to-end support for enhanced telepresence quality. As part of the Polycom UltimateHD experience, these solutions will also deliver industry-leading HD voice quality in stereo (Siren22 StereoSurround), the ability to simultaneously share multimedia content in HD and Polycom's patented Lost Packet Recovery QoS technology that helps ensure a consistent, exceptional HD experience over IP networks.

Support for 1080p and 720p 60fps will be available on new Polycom RealPresence Experience (RPX) and Polycom Telepresence Experience (TPX) immersive telepresence solutions, the RMX 2000 real-time media conferencing platform, and a new Polycom HDX 8006 room telepresence solution designed for medium and large conference rooms. Polycom also announced it will offer programs for qualified RMX 2000 and HDX customers wanting to upgrade their systems to support 1080p and 720p 60fps.

Polycom telepresence solutions enable people to work more effectively and efficiently across distances through incredibly life-like, face-to-face interaction and the ability to seamlessly share any type of content. The new standards-based Polycom telepresence offerings will work seamlessly with existing Polycom telepresence solutions and the more than 1.5 million standards-based video conferencing systems in use today. Polycom telepresence solutions are part of the industry's most comprehensive architecture for enterprise-wide visual communication that unites telepresence; high-scale desktop video; multipoint video infrastructure; network, system and conference management; and supporting services.

Support for 720p at 30fps provides HD quality that is ideal for most standard meetings. Support for standard definition resolution (480p or normal TV quality) starts at just 256 kbps of bandwidth, providing high quality video for calls with desktop video clients and standard-definition video conferencing systems.

The Polycom RPX series are complete room-within-a-room, fully immersive telepresence environments optimized to deliver the most effective "same room" telepresence experience available today. The unique solutions feature seamless, cinematic video walls that capture the entire room allowing dynamic interaction, EyeConnect technology that allows people to effortlessly maintain eye contact when talking to one another, personal content monitors and immersive HD stereo audio that enables natural conversations. The Polycom RPX line supports from four to 28 people on camera in each location, allowing for applications beyond meetings, such as interactive classrooms, training centers, telemedicine studios, etc.

The Polycom TPX series immersive telepresence solutions are designed to give small groups the ability to collaborate with extraordinary realism as if they were sitting across the table from people in other locations. Large, flat-panel displays show people in life-like proportions and clarity, immersive HD stereo audio enables natural conversations, and personal content monitors allow participants to easily view and share content during a meeting.

Polycom also offers a complete line of flexible personal and room telepresence solutions under its HDX line, which includes options for small, medium and large conference rooms, integrated room environments and the HDX 4000 personal telepresence systems for executive desktops and offices. The new Polycom HDX 8006 is the first HDX solution to support 1080p and is designed for medium and large rooms. The Polycom HDX 8006 is also available in complete Media Center solutions for multiple environments and applications, featuring single or dual flat-screen monitors, integrated high-performance audio system, and are available with a specially designed floor stand that houses and manages all individual components, or in an integrated wall-mount option.

Pricing and Availability

The Polycom HDX 8006 is now available for order starting at US$17,499 (includes codec, EagleEye 1080p camera, remote and microphone array) with availability planned for December 2008. Polycom RMX 2000 solutions supporting 1080p and 720p 60fps and upgrade programs for qualified RMX 2000 and HDX customers are planned for availability starting in the first quarter of 2009. RPX and TPX 1080p and 720p 60fps solutions will follow in 2009. Polycom telepresence solutions are available through certified Polycom channel partners.
