TELUS becomes first Canadian telecommunications provider to deploy and support Cisco TelePresence

Toronto, ON - TELUS today announced that it is the first Canadian telecommunications provider to achieve both the Cisco TelePresence Connection Certification and the Cisco TelePresence Authorized Technology Provider Certification. These designations recognize TELUS' capability to sell, deploy and support Cisco TelePresence, as well as having the network sophistication to deliver an optimal telepresence experience.

"Achieving both of these certifications reflects TELUS' continued leadership as Canada's foremost collaboration services provider. Canadian public and private sector organizations can now look to TELUS alone for a complete end-to-end Cisco TelePresence solution including installation, support and advanced network connectivity," said David Fuller, senior vice-president, solutions and products, TELUS Business Solutions. "Cisco's TelePresence complements our extensive collaborative solutions portfolio which enables more effective communications across a global landscape for TELUS customers."

TELUS takes advantage of the Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture and innovative technology to deliver a highly scalable and highly secure solution. The Cisco TelePresence system creates unique, 'in-person' experiences between people, places and events. Cisco TelePresence delivers life-size images, via ultra-high-definition video (1080p) and spatial audio within a specially designed environment to create the experience of being in the same room with remote participants, whether they are down the street or around the world.

The Cisco TelePresence Connection certification process goes beyond static measurements of network performance. Certification is also based on industry standards with regard to staffing, verification, processes and tools. Service providers are audited annually via third-party verification to help ensure that they are committed to offering an optimal TelePresence experience.

TELUS has also implemented Cisco TelePresence internally in its Vancouver and Toronto offices, and is using the solution to help improve employee efficiency and customer communication, reduce travel, and assist in meeting environmental goals.
