November 26, 2007 -- HaiVision Systems Inc. (Montreal, Canada), the world leader in performance video encoding technology, today announces at the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition (i.e. Inter BEE) in Tokyo (Nov. 14-17) the support of high definition 1080i within HaiVision's MAKO-HD encoder/decoder technology. The MAKO-HD is a very high performance solution for encoding and decoding H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC network video achieving end to end latency as low as 70 milliseconds. The MAKO-HD, initially supporting 1080p and 720p is now capable of supporting full motion, full frame rate (25 or 30 fps) high definition 1080i through a simple firmware upgrade.

The broadcast industry is driving toward terrestrial networks for contribution which are now significantly cheaper then satellite, especially due to the efficiency and quality of H.264. Further, as terrestrial networks have native bi-directional bandwidth, broadcasters are adopting telepresence technology for Live Collaborative News Contribution. With products like HaiVision's MAKO-HD and the resulting massive reduction in latency, interviews and discussions can become more compelling and without the need to train talent in handling satellite delays.

The MAKO-HD is available for the hai1000 multi-stream multi-format encode/decode system supporting up to 5 MAKO-HD cards and concentrating the IP communications over a single IP port.

"The MAKO is changing the way people communicate," states Peter Maag, HaiVision Vice President, "enabling video collaboration of the highest caliber for executive conferencing / telepresence systems, within the medical market, and certainly within the broadcast sector. As broadcasters are under pressure to generate more believable content in more affordable ways, they are looking towards IP based bi-directional contribution systems."

HaiVision has included the support of 1080i within its base level MAKO-HD product offering at no additional charge to its clients. The support of 1080i is enabled through a simple firmware upgrade.
